Kernel DAO is committed to creating a robust and independent governance mechanism in line with our progressive decentralization. In that spirit, we are excited to announce the launch of our delegation program for Kernel governance. As a member of our community, you can now apply to become a delegate and help shape the future of our protocol.
If you are interested in becoming a delegate, please include the below information in your delegate pitch:
REQUIRED
- Name (or alias)
- ERC-20 address to receive the delegated $KERNEL governance power.
- A pitch explaining how will you add value to Kernel DAO and its community.
- Background and Qualifications.
OPTIONAL
- Discord username
- Github username
- Twitter username
- Additional URLs that you consider useful, such as previous works, insights.
Kernel DAO Core Team, plus existing delegates at the time of submission, will review all applications and select delegates based on their value addition, prior experience, and commitment to the Kernel community.
This is a great opportunity for community members who are passionate about the future of Kernel DAO to get involved in the decision-making process.
FAQ:
Q: What is the Kernel DAO delegation program?
A: The delegation program is a way for key community members/ groups to become delegates and participate in the Kernel DAO governance process with a stronger voice than its $KERNEL token holdings alone may suggest.
Much like in representative forms of government, delegates vote on behalf of those that delegate their voting power to them. Delegates play an essential role inKernel DAO Governance, as many community members may not be able to dedicate sufficient time and energy to stay informed of all the latest proposals, forum discussions, and protocol developments. Delegating their voting power enables these members to still have a say in governance, without being intimately involved in the day to day workings of the DAO.
Q: What are the responsibilities of a delegate?
A: A delegate represents others in Kernel DAO Governance. Delegates are expected to vote regularly on proposals and to contribute to active forum discussions.
Q: How are delegates selected?
A: Kernel DAO Core Team, plus the existing delegates, will review the applications, and put them up for vote in Snapshot if the candidature is solid enough. For each delegate’s vote, we will mention the delegate’s pitch and the amount being delegated to them- the community can vote Yes or No.
Q: How many tokens are delegated?
A: Depending on the qualifications of the individual or entity applying, the candidate will be put out for voting on Snapshot or not. For those put out to vote, a range between 500,000 and 1,000,000 $KERNEL tokens’ governance power will be delegated by the DAO itself (more tokens can be delegated by individuals via the Snapshot Delegation process).
Selected delegates will receive delegation of our DAO fund tokens for governance.
Annually, delegates’ activity will be reviewed. If >51% of the delegates & Core Team members deem a delegate not active enough, its delegated amount from the DAO can be withdrawn.
Conversely, if the delegate performance is deemed outstanding, its delegated amount from the DAO can double, butever surpassing the 2,000,000 KERNEL mark (2% of Total Supply)
Q: Will Kernel DAO be transferring tokens to delegates?
A: No. Kernel DAO will be delegating tokens from the DAO fund to delegates selected by the community through voting. The actual tokens will remain in the DAO fund, only the governance power of those tokens will be delegated.
Q: How will this result in decentralization?
A: This will result in a larger number of active participants in our governance process, who can have a significant say in the outcome of each vote through their delegated governance tokens. Currently, this ability is restricted to people who actual hold a large bag of the circulating KERNEL supply.
Q: How does delegation actually take place?
A: Kernel DAO uses Snapshot voting, and delegation is an easy-to-use feature of Snapshot voting.
Q: Can any KERNEL token holder delegate their KERNEL tokens to these delegates?
A: Yes, anyone with KERNEL tokens can connect their wallet to Snapshot voting and delegate their tokens to a wallet of their choice. We will be publishing lists of delegates and their wallets, as we onboard them.
